Memorandum No. IRD-2024-024: BI Tightens Tourist Visa Extension Assessment for National Security
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) released Memorandum No. IRD-2024-024, in accordance with the Philippine government’s aim to further strengthen our national security, a strict assessment of the tourist visa extension will be implemented.
In relation with this procedure, BI employees are reminded to conduct strict assessment measures such as:
- In-depth Interviews. Extensively handle the interview of the applicants to get verified reasons for extending their stay in the country including information such as their itineraries, full addresses, and activities. Record the information given in the application forms appropriately signed by the evaluator.
- Document Review. Make sure that the documents are complete and authentic. All applicants must now complete application forms accurately and provide written rationales for their extension requests.
- Record Checks. Conduct essential systems and record checks to detect any red flags or inconsistencies.
- Denials. Refuse applications from foreign nationals with suspicious intentions of extending their TVV and submit a report to the Commissioner, under the undersigned.
- Reporting. Report applicants displaying suspicious intent to the Commissioner through the undersigned.
